artist statement

My Paintings are a dialogue between marks and material. In acrylic, oil, and styrofoam relief, I explore psychological and emotional states, focusing on conflicting states of mind. In the tradition of William De Kooning and Francis Bacon , I use the human figure to elicit an emotional response and to create and atmosphere where reality and fantasy merge.
